We produce electricity and provide energy as well as energy services. We are the number one in onshore wind energy and hydropower in Belgium. Our company, Luminus, plays a central role in securing energy supplies in Belgium thanks to several natural gas power plants that enable us to respond to the intermittent character of solar and wind energy. With an installed capacity of 2,160 MW in October 2019, Luminus represents around 10% of the total installed capacity in Belgium.
Luminus sells electricity, natural gas and energy services to approximately 2 million private and corporate clients, accounting for a commercial market share of approximately 20%. We invest in future energy challenges by offering innovative solutions to clients in the field of energy efficiency and by keeping our focus on sustainable energy development. We have almost 2,000 employees, of which the majority is dedicated to the development of energy efficiency services and renewable energy sources.
For the seventh year in a row, our company is among the 64 companies that have been elected Top Employer in Belgium. We have strong ties with local communities and boast the expertise of the EDF Group, one of the world leaders in the energy industry.
We want to be the preferred energy partner, helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint with innovative energy efficiency solutions and renewables.
The energy industry is changing at a rapid pace. Today customers expect more from their energy supplier than just the delivery of gas and electricity. As a prominent player in the market, Luminus wants to guarantee continuous improvement of energy services and solutions for our customers. That is why Luminus has acquired reliable and professional companies to become part of the Luminus Group. The Luminus Group is able to offer green solutions such as solar panels, insulation, CHP units, charging infrastructure, energy efficiency improvement plans, etc. for both business and residential customers. Luminus has transformed itself from an ordinary energy supplier to a reliable energy partner.
In 2018, our CSR performance was scored 85/100 by Ecovadis.
We are #1 in onshore wind energy and hydropower in Belgium.
In September 2019, we had 194 wind turbines … and counting – the equivalent of 502 MW installed.
Since beginning 2019, we have installed more than 100 000 solar panels at our clients – the equivalent of more than 30 MW installed.
Luminus plans to invest 700Mio € in renewables and energy efficiency between 2018 and 2023.
Starting as a Young Starter at Luminus is not only about a new job but also about entering a whole new social network. When I started at Luminus one of my personal goals was to get involved in “extra” internal initiatives as I wanted to meet other employees and create good relationships with them outside the “work environment”. I was amazed at the number of opportunities. We have the chance to participate to a lot of events, like the EDF Cup which is a football tournament in Paris organized by our mother company, or the preparation of a business game for which Luminus is a sponsor. Finally, as I am striving to limit my environmental footprint, I joined an internal group of employees named Climaction. We launch initiatives within Luminus to be more respectful of the environment and lower our carbon footprint.

The job in my current rotation consists of part-time price setting in the residential market and part-time development of new sales channels. Since I don’t have any economic background, I was a bit afraid to fit in. But as a youngster, it’s all about working out of your comfort zone sometimes, right? Lucky for me, colleagues were there to get me on track quickly. By now I feel like a gopher in soft dirt, learning everything there is to know about the residential energy market, how prices are built and how energy is secured for all our customers.
What my third and final rotation will be like, is a surprise also for me. I know one thing: it will be in the Strategy & Corporate Affairs department and so once again something completely different. But, if I would learn as much as in my first two rotations… Well, that would make me the luckiest trainee in the country!

Each rotation so far has taught me something new and fits perfectly with my broad interest field. But that is not all I have experienced in the past months. The energy industry is such a rapidly changing and interesting field. We really are at the frontier of climate change, and as a company we are capable of making real contributions in fighting it. And that is exactly what Luminus is trying to do every day. I am sure the future will still hold many challenges, but I’m looking forward tackling them!
